The Business of Being a Writer: How to Make Money—or Even a Living—while Writing

Sunday, March 3, 2019

3:00PM - 6:00PM

$60 New Student | $45 Returning

This seminar is for all types of writers who are interested in making money—or even a career—from their writing.

In The Business of Being a Writer, Jane Friedman wrote, "It remains possible to make a decent living from writing if you’re willing to pay attention to how the business works, devise a business model tailored to your goals, and adapt as needed.”
Using her excellent book as a guide, this broad-topic seminar will help you explore the various ways you can earn income through your writing. We’ll cover:

  • How to assess your current strengths and weaknesses as a writer

  • Building a platform for your future writing

  • A framework for future work, i.e., What projects should you say yes to?

  • A dozen ways to monetize your writing

Time permitting, the seminar will also feature an open Q&A for the class to discuss how each in-person attendee can best pursue their specific writing goals so they can get into—and remain in—the business of being a writer.

Fee: $60 or $45 for former/current students
