If you're a poet living in #LiteraryDallas we're excited to offer Poetry II: The Craft of Revision. This is a 6-week poetry workshop led by Sebastian H. Paramo that begins on May 17th. Bring your poems!
This workshop will focus on one of the more important skills in writing: revision. We will go beyond taking out a line or changing a word and focus on revising with an eye for finding new openings in the poems we get stuck on. We will employ rules to force ourselves to be creative and break free. Workshops will be anchored by poems written by established writers and those by contemporary poets experimenting with form. We will read essays on craft and a few poems each week to steady our discussions. Our pieces will focus on finding their best form and way of retelling what we want to say. Students will be required to bring in three poems to revise, and our final class will focus on preparing a revised piece for submission.
Each writer will have five opportunities over the course to have their work critiqued. Students will be expected to provide written feedback that is respectful and constructive for the writer and supports their vision and voice. A private conference with the instructor is included.

If you're a poet living in #LiteraryDallas we're excited to offer Poetry I: Introduction to Contemporary Poetry. This is a 6-week poetry workshop led by Sebastian H. Paramo that begins on May 16th. We hope you'll join us!
This introductory course is designed to expose you to living poets and the contemporary poetry scene. You'll examine poets from the early 20th century and quickly move toward poets writing today. We’ll look at Richard Hugo’s book The Triggering Town as a means for inspiration and finding your own voice. The line, the stanza, metaphor, and other fundamental techniques will be discussed.
Each week, you'll participate in writing discussions and experiments to highlight these techniques. The central focus will be on student work and each writer will have four opportunities to have their work critiqued. Students will be expected to provide written feedback that is respectful and constructive for the writer that supports their vision and voice.
